A unique sculpture of Lord Ekadanta in a fighting posture has been found at Chennakesava Swamy temple at Macherla town, Palnadu district of Andhra Pradesh.
This is an unusual Ganesha sculpture carved on the central part of Rangamantapa pillar. The panel is delineated with the narrative of killing of Durasada, a demon, in which Ganesha kills the asura after a tough fight according to Ganesha Purana. This unique image holds Parashu and Ankusha (battle axe and goad) in two hands and fighting with another two hands.
E. Siva Nagi Reddy, archaeologist and CEO, Pleach India Foundation, unearthed it during survey around Macherla town, says that the sculpture has a archeological significance.
He adds two more similar and contemporary sculptures of Ganapa engaged in killing demon are found at 12 century Pachchala Someshwara temple, Pangal in Nelginda district and the Rama temple, Sattenapalli, in Palnadu district.
