The High Court of Karnataka directed the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) to reconsider the ranking by taking II Pre University (PU) marks and CET-2022 marks in the ratio of 50:50 even for the students who passed PU II in 2021, while setting aside the CET-2022 ranking for under graduate courses in engineering and technology.
Justice SR. Krishnakumar delivered the verdict while allowing a batch of petitions filed by R. Eshwar and 52 other students, had passed the II PU in 2021 and reappeared for CET 2022.
The petitioners/students had questioned the different yardsticks adopted in awarding ranks to them.
The court set aside a note issued by KEA on the day of announcing the results in which it was stated that marks of only CET-2022 were considered for alloting ranks for students who had passed II PU in 2021 without writing exams as marks were awarded through a special scheme evolved in view of COVID-19. Where as ranks for students who passed PUC 11 in 2022, KEA had considered 11 PU and CET-22 marks in 50-50 ratio.
With this order, KEA will now have to redo the entire process of allocating ranks for all students who wrote CET-2022 as KEA had considered marks in 50:50 ratio only for students who passed II PU in 2022.
