Tulasi Gowda an environmentalist from Honnali village, Ankola taluk in Karnataka state. Despite having no formal education, she has made immense contribution towards preserving the environment. She has planted more than 30,000 saplings and looks after the nurseries of the Forest Department. She is known as the ‘Encyclopedia of Forest’ for her ability to recognise the mother tree of any spices.
A prestigious U.S. daily newspaper has published special report on the service of Tulasi Gowda an environmentalist. This paper has appreciated about the environmental concerns of Tulasi Gowda, Padmashree awardee of the Halakki Vokkaliga Community. She dedicated her whole life to protect environment without expecting any reward. Trees are life for this 86 year young lady.
The newspaper said, her achievement in transforming a barren land into a beautiful paradise cannot be described in the words.
If she steps outside, she sees the trees, talks to them and cares for them. The dead tree branches are cut and she used to transplant them without disturbing the original tree. She feels happy to plant another one in the place of a fallen tree.
Thus, the report describes that this senior life which has sacrificed her life for environmental protection will be alive forever.
