Matrimonial relationships in Kerala appear to have been influenced by consumer culture of ‘use and throw’ which is evident from rising in live- in-relationship and this prevailing trend increases the chances of getting divorce for selfish and silly reasons, the Kerala High Court observed recently.
The court further observed that the younger generation thinks marriage, is an evil to be avoided to enjoy a free life without any liabilities, they would expand the word WIFE as ‘worry invited for ever’ instead of ‘wise investment for ever’
The high court said Kerala known as God’s own country, was once famous for its well knit family bonds, but the present trend is to break the nuptial tie for selfish and silly reasons or for extra marital relationships, not even thinking about their children.
A bench of Justices A. Muhamed Mustaque and Sophy Thomas said while dismissing a divorce petition of a man who abandoned his family consisting of his wife and three daughters after 9 years of married life subsequent to an alleged affair with another woman.
The Bench pointed out that the marriages from time immemorial, were considered as “solemn”, a sanctity was attached to it and it was “the very foundation of strong society”.
