Union Minister for Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan told The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is a scheme for global citizenship, that recognises all Indian languages are national languages with a view to encourage research and renovation.
Addressing 36th Convocation of SASTRA deemed to be University, Mr. Pradhan said that the NEP 2020 recognises the positive impact of one’s mother tongue on stimulating thinking power and innovation. All the Indian languages in the country are recognised as ‘Bharat Basha’ to inspire clarity of thought into the learning process.
The Minister said, the policy reflects on bridging the gap between education and skills advocating entrepreneurship.
Mr. Pradhan said India has the knowledge capacity to find sustainable solutions at a global level. Initiatives were in place for harnessing and integrating knowledge in Indian knowledge systems in the folklore and old literature forms.
The Minister conferred Doctor of Science (honoris causa) on Krishnaswami Alladi, Professor of Mathematics, University of Florida, and Chairman of SASTRA-Ramanujan Prize Committee, and Doctor of Letters (honoris causa) on Chamu Krishna Shastry, Chairman, Bharatiya Basha Samiti.
Chancellor of the Deemed University, Mr. R. Sethuraman conferred the degrees and administered a pledge to the graduates. Over 4,100 students, including 72 PHD candidates, received their degrees.
