Pratap Reddy, City Police Commissioner had directed the jurisdictional police to step up patrolling and also to put up check points at the entry and exit points across the city to check the growing offenses of two wheelers and house thefts. As a result of the said action,Bangalore south-east division police managed to trace two cases and arrest six persons and recover 38 two wheelers worth around Rs. 30 lakh from them.
Acting on the information of a bike theft in Koramangala, inspector D.N. Nataraj and his team scrutinized over 50 CCTV footages and arrested one of the accused and he roped in three of his associates from Tamilnadu to move around residential area to steal two wheelers parked outside the houses.
The accused used to break the handles and manipulate the wiring and to ride across the border overnight to reach Tamilnadu. The accused would then sell the bikes to people of remote villages without documents at throwaway prices and share the booty, as revealed by C.K. Baba, DCP, south-east who supervised the investigation. Then based on the confession of the accused police recovered 29 other bikes.
Similarly Bandepalya police could trace out another bike theft case arresting two persons and recover nine bikes. A detailed interrogation led the accused to confess that they are from Hosur and used to come from bus, move around residential area to identify and steal parked bikes and ride them back to Tamilnadu.
