The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has done a wonderful job by starting a beautiful programme called ‘Wonder on Wheels’ in Bengaluru. It obtained 10 buses from Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). This is the continuation of the Montessori Schools on wheels programme which was launched in May.
BBMP Commissioner Tushar Girinath while launching this programme said it will be beneficial to 300-500 out of school children in the city. Children can learn in English, Kannada, and Hindi mediums in these buses daily.
Architects have designed the bus with a removable amphitheatre and musical areas. The bus is furnished with detachable seating,shelves and storage to allow for free creative movement of the children. The bus is facilitated with art, craft, musical instruments, library books and audio-visual systems, study and play materials to quench the thirst of the students. The permanent art and craft teachers will be there.
The aim of this programme is to provide creative learning material to the out-of-school children. He said this programme will be extended to the whole city soon.
About 50 children will be accommodated in each of these buses. There will be two trained (in Montessori schooling) teachers to enhance the knowledge of the children and a D group worker.
According to officials, the BBMP will park the bus in parks and gardens which helps the children to learn in the open, in a stress free circumstances and explore nature.
This project is the creative idea of Freethinking Foundation and is being undertaken by BBMP.
