Under this Mathru Poorna Yojana, the State Government will provide a financial assistance of Rs. 6,000 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the expecting mothers. This scheme aims to provide pregnancy aid to mother of below poverty line (BPL) families. This amount will be given to pregnant women for three months before delivery and three months after delivery at Rs. 1,000 per month. The aim of this scheme is to provide at least one nutritious meal every day to pregnant women particularly those living in rural areas of the state.
Now the State Government has decided to deliver ration on the door step of expecting mothers to secure nutritious diet in six districts in Karnataka, demand raised to extend this scheme covering all districts.
Under Mahtru Poorna Yojane, the government has ordered to handover the ration to doorstep to six hilly districts to provide nutritious food to the pregnant women – Minister for Women and Child Development Halappa Achar said.
BJP member Bharathi Shetty urged the government to extend the scheme all over the state. She said the option should be given to women.
Mr. Achar said, there is another sector which points out that the food supplied at home is not reaching pregnant women. He added that the women can exercise their choice to take it at home or have it at Anganwadis.
