The Central Jail at Parappana Agrahara was proclaimed the best jail at the 6th All India Prison Duty Meet in Prison Hygiene Competition. A central prison in Andhra Pradesh won the second prize and the third prize went to central prison in Tamilnadu. About 1,319 prisons from all over India (States and Union Territories) took part in the contest, including a team from Karnataka that was held in Ahmedabad recently. The meet was held from 4th September to 6th September.
The competition had various parameters like quality of food, livelihood, health of prisoners, cleanliness inside and outside, maintenance of bathrooms and toilets, safety, security and duty classification.
Parappana Agrahara jail was inspected by a team of five officials guided by the Assistant Director of Police Research and Development (BPRD), New Delhi.
Prison officials told, the officials communicate with prisoners. The team interaction and monitored the condition of the prisoners, took the pictures, checked the records maintained by the jail authorities, reviewed the action taken by the officials for good prison administration. It also visited prison industries and discussed the future plans of jail authorities.
Karnataka State Prisons team bagged four gold medals, three silver medals and two bronze medals in various professional events in the duty meet which is a matter of pride. As a part of the meet, there was also competition on hygiene and upkeep of prisoners in the country.
The officials added, Aside from the Bengaluru Central Prison,other eight Central Prisons in Karnataka won the award with ‘4 star’ rating by the FSSAI between October 2021 and March 2022.
