Renovation of the 8th century Kedarnath temple, which was at the epic centre of the disaster in 2013, is one of the dream projects of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A Mumbai based business man is ready to fund the makeover of Kedarnath temple’s sanctum sanctorum, which will now be golden plated. Currently, one of the famous chardham temple is covered approximately with 230 kilograms of silver.
According to Ajendra Ajay, Chairman, Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath temple committee, the silver plating of the temple was done in 2017. The firm that has done the golden plating of sanctums of ‘Kashi Vishwanath’ and many other temples of South India has been given the challenge of replacing the silver inside Kedarnath temple’s sanctum with gold plating.
Mr. Ajay added that they had already started removing silver from the sanctum of the temple. Afterwards copper plates will be placed on the walls and pillars inside the temple. This will be done only after taking the measurements. Once taking measurement is completed, they will replace the same with gold plating.
The work already began inside the temple and will be completed before Deepavali. The gold plating will be done on walls, pillars and on the chatra above the deity. The business man who donated the gold wants to keep his name secret claiming it’s a ‘gupta daan’.
