Umesh Katti, Karnataka Minister for food and Civil supplies and Forest and Ecology, passed away in Bengaluru late on Tuesday night following a massive heart attack.
Mr. Katti suffered a heart attack at his dollars colony home in Bengaluru and was rushed to the hospital. But the treatment was ineffective.
The 61 year BJP leader hailed from Hukkeri taluk of Belagavi district died in a private hospital. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
He had fought nine elections and won eight of them. He became a Minister for the first time in the late JH Patel’s cabinet and served as Minister under four Chief Ministers.
Known for his controversial remarks that some termed reckless, he maintained that Karnataka would be divided into north and south Karnataka and that he would become the Chief Minister of North Karnataka.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and a host of leaders have condoled his death.
