The National Logistics Policy was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote faster movement of goods and to cut down the transportation charges considerably. The policy aims to bring down the logistic charges/ cost from 13-14% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to 8%.
While unveiling the policy, Narendra Modi said “we must bring the logistic cost to single digit as soon as possible. In a way, this is a low-hanging fruit, if we have to become globally competitive”. The policy will help to fulfill India’s dream to become a developed economy. The policy seeks to support faster growth after two pandemic-ridden years. It streamlines rules and address supply side constraints, besides providing a roadmap to reduce fuel costs and lower logistics charges.
“The echo of ‘Make in India’ and India becoming self-reliant is everywhere in the country. India is setting big export targets and is also trying to fulfill them. India is emerging as a manufacturing hub,is securing in the mind of the world and the world has accepted it” – Narendra Modi stated.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi told, the policy will bring a new energy to all sectors. This policy is just a beginning and it’s execution will be key to success. The policy predicts creating a Unique Logistics Interface Platform which will bring all the digital services related to the transportation sector into a single portal, freeing the exporters from anchor of lengthy and cumbersome processes. It also plans standardisation of physical assets like size of containers, trucks and better engagement with states, development of logistic parks.
The Central Government is working on the National Logistics Policy since three years.
