Renowned film maker Girish Kasaravalli inaugurated as first library at Hulimavu police station recently. It is a result of a big step towards society outreach by the south east division police who have taken up a lead to establish a library in every police station.
Mr. C. K. Baba, DCP (South East) leading the programme said “we are planning to set up libraries and reading kiosks at every police station and at the office premises of DC and ACP”.
He added “I always carry a book while traveling or during breaks from office work which led to the idea of a library. So that the people who come to station can read something while waiting and make the police stations more friendly”.
The library at Hulimavu police station has a collection of 840 books donated by the residents of the area. Alumni of several educational institutions have also donated the books.
The library initiative is also a part of the ‘Hello Neighbour’ campaign, which aims to help the beat police to keep a good bond with the residents, launched a few years ago, in this way establishing libraries in police stations is another important part of this outreach.
Mr. Baba said, the people are more interested in the mobile rather than reading the books. If someone cultivate a habit of reading book, he would be very happy.
Another senior officer said the libraries at police station will help the police also. Reading habit will be a good way to de-stress in the middle of hectic work and it also enrich the vocabulary power.
The police will establish other libraries also with the help of local residents in their areas.
