Indian Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken up the ambitious scheme of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) providing pure tap water to every house in rural India.
Karnataka State Government has started implementing this ambitious JJM scheme prior on war footing and to complete the scheme prior 2023 state assembly election and to achieve 100% target before 2023. In the result state government ranking has raisen to 3rd place from 17 in national ranking.
The state statistics shows that out of total 28,335 villages in the state, in 3925 villages 100% pure tape water has already been connected. In 9421 villages the work is under progress and the work is yet to be commenced in remaining 14,989 villages.
There are totally 1.01crore houses in the rural area,out of which as on 15th August 2019, 24.51 lakh houses were having tap water connection. In total 54.97 lakh houses have tap water connection. Subsequent to the commencement of the scheme 30.46 lakh houses have received tap water connection.
The question remains as to who should bear the responsibility of making payment of required electricity consumption in pumping the required quantity of water under J.J.M. scheme for providing water.
