The world famous silicon city Bangalore is literally crushed by heavy rain. Thousands of families are on the street, facing uncertainty about the future.
Several flights were diverted, buses and other vehicles stranded, several schools have declared holiday and have switched to online teaching for a few days. While many offices have suggested employees to work from home. Most part of the outer ring road and Sarjapur road that house some IT firms resembled lakes, affecting the movement of traffic.
Bikers pushing their two wheelers which were struck and pedestrians struggling to navigate through knee deep water was a common sight in almost all places.
The most affected areas were Bellandur, Sarjapur, Whitefield, JP Nagar, BEML layout Varthur, Balagere road, Mekhri circle, KR Puram, Hennur and Hebbal.
Many citizens took to social media to complain about flooding and put up videos and photos of the same.
The reasons for the submerging of capital city are, all most all the lakes in Bengaluru are full, obstruction of water flow due to encroachment of Rajakaluve, ponds filled with sewage water, obstruction of water storage without removal of silt in ponds, development of layouts encroaching the tank bund areas.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced construction of sluice gates at Bengaluru’s lakes, reactivation of borewells for water supply and a special grant of Rs. 300 crore has been provided for the flood hit city, which he admitted had no infrastructure to handle such heavy rainfall.
