On August 24 1991 the present state of Ukraine declared its act of independence from the former Soviet union and in modern day Ukraine this is a major holiday. Some Ukrainian Canadians might celebrate December 1st as independence day (as it is the day memorandum of independence was passed). This day is the major day of celebration in Ukraine.

But today the conditions are critical as russian war on Ukraine is on going, president Mr zelenskiy has requested citizens to not to do any public celebration in Kyiv. As they are expecting the attack by the Russian side. And Ukrainian flag has been hoisted on the captured tanks of russia. Ukrainian soldiers have sworn powerful response to any independence day attacks. And people are not to involve in big numbers in any public places.

On the other side russia has established a temporary court in Donetsk and arrested foreign citizens of the United Kingdom, Poland and Croatia and accused them of being mercenaries of Ukraine. In court 5 of them were declared not guilty while 3 of them were granted a death sentence.

As an Indian from a neutral perspective I wish war ends very soon and bloodshed stops.
