{"id":1097,"date":"2025-01-12T08:56:12","date_gmt":"2025-01-12T08:56:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.timesofmedia.com\/news\/?p=1097"},"modified":"2025-01-12T08:56:12","modified_gmt":"2025-01-12T08:56:12","slug":"apple-board-opposes-proposal-to-abolish-dei-programs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timesofmedia.com\/news\/apple-board-opposes-proposal-to-abolish-dei-programs\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple board opposes proposal to abolish DEI programs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apple\u2019s board of directors has come out in opposition to a proposal seeking to end the company\u2019s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a proxy filing, the company said the National Center for Public Policy Research (a conservative think tank) is submitting a proposal for Apple to \u201cconsider abolishing its Inclusion &amp; Diversity program, policies, department and goals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The think tank\u2019s proposal claims that DEI programs could make companies vulnerable to lawsuits, citing the recent Supreme Court ruling against race-based affirmative action in colleges and noting that other companies have eliminated or scaled back similar programs. (Most recently, Meta eliminated its DEI programs, and Amazon is reportedly pulling back as well.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apple, however, said the proposal is \u201cunnecessary\u201d because the company \u201calready has a well-established compliance program\u201d that would presumably keep it out of legal trouble.
